aces wincing, eyes squinting, as they all run for cover
iding under umbrellas with their significant others
fraid that the rain may reveal the cold truth,
ash away all their makeup, and ruin their suits
s if somebody cares, or might disapprove
hat their hair is all matted, and they're losing their youth
iptoeing through puddles, as if they will melt
ll huddled together, like bewildered elves
squeeze through the crowd and slip off my shoes
ithout looking back at the faces of gloom
smile at the rain as it drenches my dress
s it laughing or crying at our pretentiousness?
